Crosses and Rainbows: Working with Grief and Loss Across the Lifespan of the Therapist and in the Helping Process with Clients in Need...
Heart, Mind, Spirit and Ethics
Workshop A1: All marriages have a beginning and an eventually ending, whether that be through divorce or death of a partner. There are also many years in between and a couple experiences many transitions. From beginning years, to parenting through the years, empty nest, retirement, job changes, moves, home purchases and to an eventual end. Examine these various transitions and how to help our clients navigate those transitions.
Workshop A2: The Daring Way ™ is a highly experiential methodology based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown. Mar will present a specific teaching from The Daring Way ™ material. In this mindfulness workshop, we will explore the 5 components of empathy and the 3 components of self-compassion. These practices can be learned and utilized with clients, our families, ourselves, and within our faith journey because they build connection and courage.
Workshop A3: Learn how the microbiome - the "garden" in your gut - impacts how we think and feel, and truly affects our over all health. Life transitions can come at expected or unexpected times, regardless, they often cause anxiety, stress and sleep disturbances. Focusing on a total mind, body and spiritual approach to healing is critical. Anxiety causes reactions within the body. Too much cortisol is unhealthy for the microbiome and thus affecting the mental state with less dopamine and serotonin production. Through meditation, prayer, supplementation, healthy foods, exercise and guided christian counseling, one can minimize the effects of stressful life situations and discern effective healing techniques.
HOPE in the time of the CORONAVIRUS: There are significant impacts of quarantine, isolation, and social distancing on vulnerable populations. People are feeling overwhelmed with no vaccine, experimental care and treatment, exponential spread, and the unknowns. Without hope, the crisis of meaning emerges.
Workshop B1: Help your clients who are struggling with a prodigal teen or adult child to face the reality of their situation and learn how
to live despite the pain. This workshop will identify ways to help parents stop enabling, let go of control, wrestle with their faith, and grieve when their child is making choices that disappoint them.
Workshop B2: As client challenges and needs change as they experience various phase of life transitions, so the essential therapeutic skill of empathy needs to change to meet those evolving needs for understanding, connection and treatment efficacy. Learn strategies for enhancing empathy skills beyond relating to shared personal or professional experiences, to being able to empathize with a greater variety of client experiences over time – even your outside of one’s comfort zone.
Workshop B3: Mental health practitioners have long been aware of the concept of triangulation emergent from the Chemical Dependency and Bowenian literatures but it has its antecedent roots in the scriptures. This presentation will provide clinicians a clear and powerful way to describe dysfunction to their clients, with implications for treatment, and provision for escape into health.
