Candi Schmechel, Chair
Candi works at Family Innovations, Inc., and serves as clinic lead at the Anoka location. She completed her Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy at Argosy University in 2012. She received her Master of Arts degree in counseling psychology from Alfred Adler Graduate School in 2001, and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree ifrom Texas Tech University. Candi has been licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist since 2004, and is an AAMFT/MAMFT approved supervisor, as well as an approved LPCC/LPC supervisor. She has been trained at the basic level of EMDR. Candi works with individuals, couples, families and adolescents, and has extensive experience in working with individuals and families that are affected by chemical dependency. She utilizes a holistic approach to therapy, incorporating mind, body, and soul care.
Patti Olson - Treasurer
Patti work at Hardy & Stephens Counseling and is working on her licensing requirements for Marriage and Family Therapy. Patti comes to the counseling field after over 20 years of working in business. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Business and Accounting and she received her Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Counseling from St. Mary’s University. Patti has been involved with various ministries over the years including teaching Bible studies. She has also been involved with education and community volunteer opportunities. Patti desires to help a broad range of clients including those recovering from trauma and abuse and looks forward to opportunities to incorporate her faith into her practice.
Lynn Hardy is the co-founder of the Minnesota Association of Christian counselors . Lynn is also the co -owner of Hardy and Stephens Counseling Associates located in Elk River MN. Lynn is a Licensed Psychologist with over 25 years of counseling experience in a variety of settings. Lynn received her BA from Bethel College and her Master’s degree from St. Mary’s University. Lynn’s commitment to her faith, family and profession is of utmost importance to her. Lynn has enjoyed the option of offering a faith based perspective in counseling for over 15yrs to those seeking a more holistic approach in integrating their spiritual, emotional, mental and physical health. Lynn is excited about joining with other Christian Counselors through the MACC to grow and connect and learn from one another and to bring support to all who are interested in integrating their faith and their work.
Jill Stephens is co-founder of the Minnesota Association of Christian Counselors. She views the MACC as an important tool for Christian therapists to connect, learn and grow. Jill completed her master’s degree in clinical psychology at North Dakota State University in 1988 and has been a licensed psychologist since 1993. Jill is co-owner of Hardy & Stephens Counseling Associates in Elk River. She enjoys shepherding the next generation of therapists and is an LPC/LPCC board approved clinical supervisor. While she enjoys working with a variety of clients, including individuals and couples, Jill specializes in treating Eating Disorders. Jill believes integrating the client's spirituality into therapy is critical and the most effective way for people to make changes in their life. She enjoys the opportunity to integrate spirituality into therapy for those clients who value this approach.
Michelle Frauenshuh, Co-Chairis Director of Programming at Life Development Resources and oversees LDR's DBT program and in home services. Michelle has been a clinician for 17 years and a member of the LDR team for over 9 years. In 1999, she earned her master's degree in counseling psychology from Bethel University. Michelle is a frequent speaker, board certified MFT clinical supervisor, and specializes in DBT, trauma recovery, TBI, and attachment issues. She has significant clinical experience with child/adolescent behavior issues, adoption issues, trauma, emotional, physical and sexual abuse, and chemical dependency.
Marcus is owner of Counseling Care, has been a clinical therapist in the Twin Cities for more than 25 years. Marcus received his masters degree in education/counseling from Regent University, Virginia Beach, Virginia. He received his doctorate in clinical psychology from Union Graduate Institute, Cincinnati, Ohio. Marcus and his wife Michele are the parents of five children and have been foster parents to more than 20 children. his passion as a counselor, husband and father is in the integration of God's word in daily Christian life.
Marcus Kilian, MTh, PsyD, LP is the co-founder and executive director of Paraclete Care, LLC. He is a licensed psychologist in Minnesota (LP5005) and a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional and a professional member of the International Association of Trauma Professionals. He has had training and clinical experiences in different professional contexts, such as hospitals, Christian counseling centers, outpatient mental health clinics, correctional institutions, sex offender treatment clinics, and residential drug and alcohol treatment facilities. He specializes in the treatment of trauma, sex addiction, and marital distress.
is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and owner of Bridging Hope Counseling with locations in Rogers, Buffalo, Circle Pines and Wayzata. She completed her undergraduate in Entrepreneurship at the University of St. Thomas, her Master’s at Bethel University and her MFT Certificate at St. Mary’s University. She is an MN State and AAMFT Board approved MFT Supervisor. She is trained in DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), and certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). She is very proactive about giving clients something they can use. Although she works with many clients, her focus is with adolescents and their parents, individuals stuck from struggles from past trauma, and families
Jenny Beall - Secretary
Jenny Beall, MA, LPCC Jenny is a Therapist and the founder of Threads of Hope Counseling with offices in Newport, Inver Grove Heights, and Brooklyn Park. She completed her Masters in Counseling Psychology at Bethel and additional Marriage and Family Coursework at Adler Graduate School. She has been in practice for the past 6 years and has discovered her favorite niche to work with is people pleasers. She works with a wide variety of clients and issues, but her other specialties include child adjustment issues, parenting and family counseling, sexual addictions, and she has recently started incorporating animal assisted therapy with her therapy puppy-in training, Pip.
Dr. Russ Berg - Board Member
Russ is a pastoral crisis marriage counselor and Director of Pastoral Training and Church Development at Hope for the Hurting Home. He has a contagious passion to help churches change the culture of divorce in America, one marriage at a time. His education includes a D. Min. from Bethel University in Congregational Care and Marriage Ministry and an M.A. in Educational Ministry from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He was former senior pastor of the Grove Church (Maple Grove EFC) for 21 years.
In 2010 he was a lead member on the Crisis Marriages in Faith Communities Project (a collaborative think tank with the MN Couples on the Brink Project, the Uni. Of MN, and area clergy and counselors) which developed a new divorce intervention protocol called Faith Based Discernment Counseling. His doctoral dissertation focused on the first ever pastoral training in divorce intervention with a six month follow up study conducted with pastoral staff in the Twin Cities. Since 2012, he has worked with over 250 couples at risk of divorce and provided training for more than 400 pastors, counselors, therapists, marriage mentors and lay leaders in this innovative method of working with mixed agenda crisis marriages.
Russ has been married to Melody for 42 years. They have two married daughters and 5 grandchildren living in the northwest suburbs of Minneapolis. He enjoys date nights with Melody, wrestling with grandkids, biking, golf in the worst way (literally) and camping. .
Pastor Greg Pagh
Is the Sr. Pastor at Christ Church in Otsego, MN. He received his Doctorate in Church Growth in 1996 from Luther Theological Seminary. Pastor Greg is an author, conference speaker and community leader. He has a special passion for uniting pulpit and marketplace ministers from business, education and government to see cities and nations transformed. Pastor Greg serves as the Chair of Bless Minnesota – Adopt Your Street in Prayer, a broad-based, non-denominational, state-wide initiative that is bringing the body of Christ together around the goal of seeing every street in the State of Minnesota adopted in prayer. Tim Walsh - Board Member
Tim is the Treatment Director for the Life Renewal Programs at Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge. He completed his doctorate in public administration at Hamline University in 2012. He received his Master of Arts degree in counseling psychology from St. Thomas University in 1993. Tim earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with double majors in Social Sciences/Psychology and Biblical Studies from the University of Northwestern, St. Paul. He has been licensed as a psychologist since 1998. He also has over 26 years of experience as an administrator in the fields of health, human services and corrections.
